Health education and screening ability improvement project for high-risk population of diabetes started.

  BEIJING, Beijing, June 24 (Xinhua) The kick-off meeting of "Health Education and Screening Ability Improvement Project for High-risk People with Diabetes" was held online recently. This year, the coverage of the project will be further expanded to eight provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government) to help early screening, early diagnosis and early treatment of diabetes.

  The project is sponsored by the Center for Capacity Building and Continuing Education of the National Health and Wellness Committee, with academic support from the School of Medicine and Public Health of Peking Union Medical College, and joint support from Beijing Great Medical Foundation and Novo Nordisk China.

  Huang Lei, director of the Basic Public Health Department of National Health Commission Grass-roots Department, said that at present, the situation of prevention and control of chronic diseases in China is still very grim. As one of the most common chronic diseases, diabetes has become a major public health problem that seriously threatens the country’s economic and social development. In 2022, National Health Commission Center for Capacity Building and Continuing Education, based on the good results of the previous project, further implemented the new era health and wellness policy of "focusing on grass-roots units and giving priority to prevention", pushed the project to more areas of the country, covered more people, promoted the popularization of diabetes health knowledge at grass-roots units, and improved the awareness rate of diseases, which was of great significance for continuously improving the service capacity of grass-roots units and the level of prevention and treatment of chronic diseases, and making early prevention and control of fine diabetes.

  Yang Aiping, director of the Center for Capacity Building and Continuing Education in National Health Commission, pointed out that the grass-roots level is the main position of diabetes prevention and treatment. As the "national team" of continuing medical education, the center has taken root in the grass-roots level in recent years under the guidance and support of the National Health Commission Department of Primary Health and Health, and has improved the comprehensive management ability of diabetes among primary medical and health personnel in many aspects, and promoted the implementation of the graded diagnosis and treatment system in primary medical institutions across the country.

  It is reported that since 2021, the "Project of Improving Health Education and Screening Ability of Diabetes High-risk Groups" has been carried out in five provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government) such as Tianjin, Shandong and Xinjiang, with a total of 310,000 screening of high-risk groups, which has played an important role in timely detection of diabetes and early intervention management. In 2022, the coverage of the project will be further expanded to eight provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government), which will help promote early screening, early diagnosis and early treatment of diabetes and benefit more grassroots doctors and the masses.
