Marvell’s happy announcement and TeraHop realize the industry’s first end-to-end optical PCIe 6.0 connection.

On March 28th, Marvell Perfect Electronics announced that it would show the industry’s first end-to-end optical PCIe 6.0 connection together with TeraHop at the OFC 2025 Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exhibition which opened on March 30th.

Compared with the traditional electrical PCIe signal transmission,Optical communication has obvious advantages in terms of loss, transmission distance and energy efficiency. It can also unlock a series of new designs, such as physical separation of storage and computing, and is regarded as a feasible scheme for high-speed PCIe communication within AI server clusters in the future. However, due to the traditional use of electrical signals and other reasons, the optical PCIe scheme is still in the early stage.

In this exhibition, the Terahep adapter integrated with Marvell Alaska P PCIe Gen 6 retimer will be used, and the 10-meter TeraHop OSFP-XD active optical cable will be used to transmit signals between the host and endpoint devices.

Marvell saidThis solution can ensure AI accelerator, CPU, CXL pooled memory, SSD and NIC. (IT house note: network card)And realize reliable high-speed connection between them., unlocking new possibilities for the AI-driven data center.

Marvell vice president and general manager of connectivity business department said:

Marvell continues to lead the industry with the first end-to-end optical PCIe Gen 6 connectivity solution, providing the key interconnection technologies needed to expand the AI infrastructure.

With our strong leadership in PAM technology, generations of expertise in PCIe evolution and customized accelerated infrastructure chips, we can help very large enterprises optimize their AI architecture to achieve the highest performance, efficiency and scalability.
